Under the name AcousticOST, San Francisco-based guitarist Matt Fish explores the music from anime and video game soundtracks. Blending classical technique with the percussive elements of fingerstyle guitar, Matt produces powerful, beautiful, and technically impressive arrangements for solo guitar, transforming the original work to give the music a life of its own.
Hailed by Classical Guitar Magazine as "a master," San Francisco-based guitarist Matthew Fish is a prize-winning soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. He specializes in playing music by contemporary composers and has premiered numerous works by Johannes Möller, Garry Eister, Kevin Villalta, David Gottlieb, Paul Bergel, and Claire Sokol.
Matthew’s debut album, From Her Source to the Sea, is devoted entirely to the solo guitar music of Swedish guitarist and composer Johannes Möller. The CD features nine world premiere recordings and has received rave reviews from critics. Soundboard Magazine called the album "a first-rate release," noting "some of [the music] sounds fantastically difficult, making one wonder how many fingers Mr. Fish has on each hand." Classical Guitar Magazine said the CD "Sounds like nothing else you have ever heard...this disc of Möller’s music is a constant joy, at once unusual, unique, and always satisfying." American Record Guide hailed the album as "an exciting discovery!" saying "The music is all quite fascinating and always played with exquisite taste and complete technical command," and Fanfare Magazine called it "an important contribution to new and rewarding repertoire for the guitar."
Matt has performed throughout the United States for the South Bay Guitar Society, Sacramento Guitar Society, Springfield Classical Guitar Society, University of Louisville Guitar Festival, Knoxville Guitar Society, Dayton Guitar Society, Sierra Nevada Guitar Festival, SF Bay Classical Guitar Festival, Illinois Wesleyan School of Music, Hot Air Music Festival, and the Guitar Foundation of America Regional Symposium in San Francisco.
Matt received his Bachelor’s of Music Degree from CSU, Chico where he studied with guitarist Tobin Roye. He later went on to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to study with Latin Grammy award-winning guitarist and composer Sérgio Assad, where he received his Master’s of Music Degree in 2012.
Matt plays a Kenny Hill Signature Model guitar.
